by Richard Liptzin - Secretary
Before our meeting at 8 pm, there was a cocktail meeting with Camille of Frank and Camille's at 6 pm. Camille hosted and talked about the Young Chang piano line, demonstrating and talking about the pianos. The bottom line is a good value for the price. This month's technical was given by Lori Clutter, factory representative for Young Chang and also QRS Music Tech, Inc. Lori is involved with PTG and goes to many chapter meetings. Young Chang is now located in Cyprus, CA, an interesting fact - when Young Chang brothers started, they built Yamahas. Young Chang has 50% of the Asian market. Weber is part of Young Chang North America. Lori then remarked that "Good is really affordable in the piano industry." She continued with the history of Young Chang. Next she talked about the action in their pianos. The woods used are significantly different than other pianos. The new carbon fiber WNG Action is a new style and an improvement in some areas of action in Young Chang pianos. This new action has been very well received and an improvement of the wood parts that were previously used. There was a discussion on pros and cons of carbon hammer shanks. The meeting adjourned at 8:15pm. A very informative meeting and the members picked up a lot of new info. A side note - in this month's journal there was a tip of using ballastol to voice hammers. Secretary Rich Liptzin used ballastol on a Baldwin baby grand and had excellent results.
