A regular meeting of the Long Island Nassau Chapter, PTG was held on January 8, 2013, at Frank and Camille's Keyboard Center, 229B Glen Cove Road, Carle Place, N.Y. Seven chapter members and four guests attended.

Minutes for November 13, 2012 meeting were accepted as published in the December newsletter.
The treasurer’s report was accepted as read.
President Slavin announced that Valerie Sulzinsky has resigned from PTG due to a shoulder injury.
The business meeting concluded at 7:07 P.M. Bill Maguire, a former member of the L.I. Suffolk Chapter was the guest speaker for the evening. The topic for the evening’s presentation was about ivory key coverings.
Mr. Maguire started his presentation by talking about his collection of used ivory heads and tails, which he sorts by color and grain pattern. He then talked about the tools he uses and demonstrated the removal of old ivory from piano keys. Once the ivory is removed, he discussed the preparation of the replacement ivory and the piano key. Old contact cement, if present, is removed with lacquer thinner. On very thin pieces of ivory, he paints the underside of the ivory with a white primer to increase opacity. Ivory glue wafers are recommended for attaching the replacement ivory to the key.
The presentation concluded with a demonstration of the repair of chipped ivory using various colored pigments and 5-minute epoxy.
The meeting adjourned at 8:15 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Allan N. Schumacker, RPT
