Traditionally, a cracked soundboard is repaired by opening up the seam and gluing in a V-shaped shim. A more modern development has been to route out a channel to accommodate a rectangular insert, which provides 3 gluing surfaces and thereby greater strength. I recently serviced a new Chinese-made Story and Clark which apparently adapted this later approach to all the soundboard joints right from the outset during factory construction, to provide added reinforcement and prevent future separations.
