Proposed Minutes of the November Meeting
by Allan Schumacker - Secretary

A regular meeting of the Long Island Nassau Chapter, PTG was held on November 8, 2011, at Frank and Camille’s Keyboard Center located on Old Country Road in Carle Place. Eleven chapter members and two guests attended.

President Slavin called the meeting to order at 7:09 P.M. New chapter members were welcomed.

The minutes for the October 11, 2011 meeting were accepted by general consent.

President Slavin made the following announcements:
  • Next month’s dinner party would be held at the Tesoro Ristorante in Westbury.
  • He showed us a flyer that he discovered in which a former Associate Member of our chapter is promoted as being a “Registered Member” of PTG. Since this individual is currently not a member of PTG and there isn’t any such membership classification, a copy of the flyer was forwarded to the executive director of PTG for appropriate action.
  • The second Tuesday in February, 2012, is Valentine’s Day. After discussing the matter, the members present voted to meet on Monday, February 13.

The business meeting concluded at 7:14 PM. The guest speaker for the evening, Leopold Holder, RPT and member of the New York City Chapter, PTG, was introduced. Mr. Holder talked briefly about his background and his qualifications as an appraiser. The topic for discussion was appraisals. This class was an informal discussion on what constitutes a correctly prepared appraisal and legal considerations. A three page introductory guide titled: “Elements of a Correctly Prepared Appraisal”, was distributed and was used as a general outline for the class. The discussion started with a definition of the word “appraisal”. After defining what an appraisal was, Mr. Holder then talked about different reasons for a client to request an appraisal. Fair market value, replacement value, marketability, and credentials of the appraiser were some of the topics discussed. He also mentioned that a professional piano technician is held to a higher standard. Appraising should not be taken lightly and is a big responsibility.

The meeting ended at 8:19 P.M.

Respectfully submitted,
Allan N. Schumacker, RPT
