Tech Tip
by Michael Slavin, RPT
Last month we discussed a particular jack related repetition problem that can
occur in grand actions. A similar failure to repeat can also appear in
verticals, especially in very compact console actions, usually of Asian origin, in
which one rail serves both as let-off and jack stop. In this case the jack
seems resistant to re-setting under the butt, and no matter how much lost motion
is installed (even very excessive) the jack still will not return properly.
The solution to this problem was taught to me by our own late Ernie Juhn. The
let-off rail must be moved slightly forward (toward yourself) in the mounting
forks, even if the jack tenders are no longer perfectly centered under the
let-off buttons. This minor adjustment will free the "lock-up," and permit
free jack movement and proper repetition.

Minutes of the November Meeting
by Marty Dinerstein - Secretary
The November meeting of Nassau PTG was held on November 8 at the Steinway
showroom in Westbury, NY. The meeting started at 7 p.m. Five chapter members
attended as well as three guests.
New business: We discussed the fact that we were submitting a request to the
Regional Vice President for a name change to the Nassau Ernie Juhn Chapter.
This had been voted on and approved by the chapter. We had sent out proxies
to those members who had not been at the meeting and their votes had been in
favor of the change.
It was agreed that proxies for votes would be sent to all members including
those who attended the meeting when a vote was needed and a quorum was not
present.
We also had a report from Mike Slavin that the end of year party is on
December 6 at the George Washington Manor [details appear on page one of this newsletter].
The business meeting ended at 7:30 p.m.
Our technical was by Ruth and Webb Phillips. They showed us the various
products that they sell for touch-ups in the home. There were products that
could cover a small surface scratch as well as those that could cover larger
imperfections.
They also showed us products for French polishing which can be used in
the home.
We thank Webb and Ruth for their presentation, especially since they were
leaving for a convention in California the next day.
