Minutes of the November Meeting
by Marty Dinerstein - Secretary
The November meeting of PTG Nassau Chapter took place on November 13, 2001 at
the Methodist Church in Baldwin. 11 regular members and 3 guests were present.
The guests were Lee Dobrins of the Suffolk Chapter, and Marco DeLells and Charlie
Neuman who might want to become members.
The meeting opened at 8 PM. The minutes were accepted and a treasurer's report
by Paul Keogler was read and accepted.
Mike Slavin reported on the party in December. It is at the Schooner
Restaurant in Freeport. The cost is $27 per person. The chapter will not have
to guarantee any minimum number of people attending.
Marilyn Heischober reported that the Home Office had called and expressed
their concern for New York after the September 11th attack.
There was no new information from the testing committee.
The business meeting ended at 8:30 PM.
Technical:
Our technical was by Eric Schandl of Steinway. He discussed the new ordering
system at Steinway with better quality control to assure prompt and accurate
delivery of parts. He also discussed improvements in the
Steinway factory itself, as well as production modifications.
Mr. Schandl also explained that it is often better to order a set of pre-hung
hammers rather than try to assemble and space them yourself. The time factor
and accuracy factors often make it more economical to use a pre-hung hammer
set.
Some other tips were mentioned including using McLube 444 for loosening a
tight action.
The meeting ended at 10:30 PM. We thank Steinway and Mr. Schandl for an
interesting and informative presentation.
