Proposed Minutes of the October Meeting
by Allan Schumacker - Secretary
A regular meeting of the Long Island Nassau Chapter, PTG was held on October 13, 2009, at Frank and Camille’s
Keyboard Center located at 371 Old Country Road in Carle Place, NY. Eight chapter members and one guest attended.
President Michael Slavin called the meeting to order at 7:13 PM.
The minutes of the September 8, 2009, meeting as published in the October 2009, newsletter, were accepted.
The treasurer’s report was accepted as read.
President Slavin announced the following:
-
Lee Dobrins is in the hospital with a serious illness. The chapter will send Lee a get well card.
-
Patricia Simenza, wife of Don Simenza, passed away as a result of having a heart attack. Don Simenza was
Lenny Genovese’s oldest and best friend.
Old Business:
-
In response to the request for subjects to be covered in chapter technical discussions, the program committee
received e-mails from chapter members requesting that the following topics be addressed: business management
software applications, raising and lowering pitch, where and when to lubricate parts of the piano, fitting
new piano case parts, piano key repairs, and financial matters.
-
President Slavin mentioned that he attended the September 16, 2009, dinner meeting of the L.I. Christofori Chapter.
He talked with chapter members about improving attendance at meetings and inviting members of neighboring chapters
to attend our meetings. Dick Dante of the Christofori Chapter suggested publishing our monthly newsletter earlier,
so that readers might have more notice of the upcoming meeting.
-
Other neighboring chapter officers were e-mailed by President Slavin regarding the same matters that were
discussed with members of the Christofori Chapter. The responses received were less than enthusiastic, but
left open the possibility for future discussion regarding the matter. A specific date has not been set.
New Business:
-
The December dinner party will be held on December 8, 2009. A restaurant has not yet been selected. An invitation
to attend will be extended to Ruth Juhn and Delores Genovese.
-
The dinner committee will need to know by the November 10, 2009, meeting, how many people will attend the December dinner.
The Business meeting ended at 7:36 PM.
Joe Bisceglie was scheduled to present the technical discussion for the evening. The topic for the discussion was
the construction of a new Steinway and Sons piano action. Due to technical difficulties, the presentation was
postponed until the November meeting.
The meeting ended at 7:55 PM
Respectfully submitted,
Allan N. Schumacker, RPT
