President's Message
by Paul Eccardt

I hope everyone had a good summer. We are all looking forward to having a fruitful season. I hope the meetings will be better attended this year, since we will be meeting at a better location. I'll be bringing in a new member, and it would be nice if some others will also be able to recruit some new faces.

Tech Tip
by Paul Eccardt, Chapter President

It is actually possible to fix a bridge in two hours with C.A. glue.

Here is how I do the repair on the bass bridge of a vertical piano when the pins shift over, leaving little or no side bearing. First, put the piano on its back, inserting a phone book (or something similar) under it, just so you can get your fingers out. Loosen all the bass tuning pins one full turn. Thread the ends of the strings on to something like another string, so they stay in order. Take out all of the pins that are loose. Vacuum out the pin holes. Put C.A. glue in a few holes, clean the excess glue, and then put those pins back in. Make sure they are at the correct height and that they are in their original position. Continue until you finish. Squirt it with the accelerator. Add more glue until the cracks are filled. Clean the excess glue again. Squirt with the accelerator. Twist and put your strings back. Lift and tap your coils. Make sure you tap the strings at the hitch pins. You can pitch raise the piano right away.

And, as always, don't forget to have a fan blowing on your face when working with C.A. glue.
