A regular meeting of the Long Island Nassau Chapter, PTG was held on May 13, 2014, at Frank and Camille's Keyboard Center, 229B Glen Cove Road, Carle Place, N.Y. Seven members were in attendance.
President Slavin called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m..
Minutes for the April 8, 2014 meeting were accepted as published in the newsletter.
The Treasurer's report was given by Paul Keogler.
The technical was presented by Douglas Gregg DVM, PhD, of the Long Island-Suffolk chapter, on the characteristics and uses of various types of adhesives. Doug has worked with adhesives for many years, and imparted his vast knowledge in his class. He discussed the advantages and limitations of each class of adhesives, from hide and wood glue, PVA, epoxy, CA, silicone, and others, with a focus on their proper application, use, strengths, and storage, as well as a history of the development of the different products. Manufacturers' data sheets were explained, as well as their tech support contacts. Doug also presented some unique repair solutions for loose tuning pins (in both grand and vertical pianos), hammer shanks broken bluntly at the hammer, among others. The meeting adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
