Dinner Party

This month's meeting will be our year-end dinner party, to be held on Tuesday evening June 12, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. at:

Bistro Citron
1362 Old Northern Boulevard
Roslyn, NY 11576-2127
(516) 403-4400

The lakeside full-course French dinner is $49 per person (including tax and tip) with a cash bar. We hope everyone will plan to attend. Please send your reservations/payment to our treasurer:

Paul Keogler
C/O Dancing Ivories
11 Washington Avenue
Bay Shore, NY 11706

Please note the 6:30 p.m. reservation time. The Village of Roslyn runs a program of free movies on Tuesday nights, and parking can become difficult by 7 p.m. The restaurant management has informed us that additional parking can be found in the Roslyn Savings Bank parking lot, about 100 yards past the entrance to Bistro Citron. Although there are towing signs, there is not a problem after hours.

For driving directions and a map, see page 3.

Tech Tip
by Michael Slavin, Chapter President

The fallboards on most new large Kawai verticals (models K-2, K-3, etc.) are held in place by a bracket on the bass end, which is part of the slow-close system. The two small machine mounting screws can be bothersome to remove, and even more so to reinstall. If the only service that is needed on the piano is tuning, with no attention to the action or keyboard required, it is not necessary to remove the fallboard. Just raise it fully and let it rest against the hammer-rest rail, placing a tuning mute or piece of felt between them to prevent scratching the finish. There is enough resistance in the fallboard hinge that it will not raise the rest-rail from this light pressure, or create any more lost-motion in the keys to hamper the action.
