The general meeting for this month will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 starting at 7 p.m.
This month's technical presentation will be by John Watson, formerly of Colonial Williamsburg, who will present an introductory class on the repair and conservation of antique and historical pianos. Mr. Watson suggests that any questions that members might have and wished to be addressed can be submitted beforehand so that they may be fully answered during the meeting: j.watson@jrw1.com.
John Watson is an independent conservator and maker of early keyboard instruments. He retired in 2016 from The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation (CWF) where he served as conservator and curator of musical instruments since 1988. His research on keyboard instrument history and conservation resulted in numerous articles and three books. His recent copies of the 1793 Mount Vernon harpsichord and the oldest piano made in America are exhibited in museums alongside the originals. He received the 2020 Curt Sachs Award, the highest honor given by the American Musical Instrument Society for lifetime contributions to the goals of the society.
