Proposed Minutes of the January Meeting
by Marty Dinerstein - Secretary

The January PTG meeting of the Nassau chapter was held at Frank & Camilles's Keyboard Center in Carle Place, NY on January 8, 2008. Eight members and two guests attended. President Mike Slavin welcomed everyone back for the new year. The previous minutes were read and accepted and a treasurer's report was also read and accepted. President Mike Slavin closed the business meeting at 7:30. Our technical was by Roy Eaton. Mr. Eaton, a well-known pianist and composer, discussed the origin of the prelude. He showed how Chopin, Gershwin and Scott Joplin all used some of the same formats in their compositions. He also demonstrated the differences quite admirably for us. We also learned about Scott Joplin, who was actually trained as a classical pianist by a German teacher while his mother was working as a domestic. He wanted to be a composer of classical music, but of course is better known for his ragtime works. Mr. Eaton answered our questions about ragtime and showed how even Chopin influenced many composers.

We thank Roy Eaton for an enjoyable and informative presentation. The meeting ended at 8:30 p.m. We thank Frank & Camille's for the use of their space.
