Tech Tip by Michael Slavin, RPT
When the key rail is removed from a vertical piano to perform service, there is often a threaded
mounting post in the center of the keyboard which can scratch or gouge the fallboard if lowered
or pulled forward in contact with it. A rubber pedal-rod pin bushing in an inverted position
over the threaded post will act as a bumper and prevent any damage to the fallboard or finish
while working. A piece of rubber tubing is another alternative.
